Around the Metro: Cubao-X

Rick, of Project Manila lent us the premiere issue of Roam, a travel magazine featuring the deviant side of Manila, where we had our very first glimpse of Cubao Expo or Cubao X. With the assurance that we will like the place, we drove all the way from Makati to Cubao via EDSA during a rush hour to meet Rick and friends in Cubao X. Actually, we didn’t need any assurance, we chase these kind of places and even a traffic enforcer can’t stop us from getting there. As much as we don’t want to divert from this topic, we could not help but mention that we’re apprehended by a traffic enforcer for a “violation of a traffic sign” in front of Krame! Did we agree with the traffic enforcer? Did we argue with the traffic enforcer? Did we bribe the traffic enforcer? We will not tell. This blog is not for that. Tawag na lang ikaw:)

Inside its U-shaped compound, there are lots of vintage/antique shops, thrift shops, a furniture shop, restaurants, art exhibits and yes, there still are a couple of shoe stores (where Kennan once bought his pair shoes as a kid). Some of these shops didn’t allow us to take pictures of their stuff. Shop owners politely asked us not to but some are generous enough to let us take pictures of their stuff. One of them is KARMA, a vintage furniture shop. We will blog about it soon.

Cubao X has its unique charm and character that artists, visionaries, students and professional designers, creative souls, bloggers and those who are simply different will not resist. We like the place. We will definitely go back. This time, with more friends.

Cubao X is located in Cubao, Quezon City. It is the former Marikina Shoe Expo in between Araneta Bus Terminal and Puregold.

It's a little pricey but definitely worth it. You'll get some very good finds in that area. We especially love the vintage store, KARMA. We'll be posting it in a few days. We also love the artsy feel of the whole compound.

WOW! This place has greatly improved since the last time I was there. I used to frequent the place because of Bellini's, the authentic Italian resto. Did you try that out? I used to get my shoes here too!
